What a Fashion Stylist Does
A fashion stylist does various jobs depending on function, but essentially it remains the same – to coordinate clothing, apparel and accessories on subjects who require their services. The most famous example of this is celebrities who require the services of a fashion stylist to strategise their image but fashion stylists can also get involved with fashion shoots, CD covers for artists or even awards shows. It’s a glamorous job that requires impeccable taste and a strong knowledge of current trends. It’s important to have an inherent passion for fashion because you will have to eat, sleep and live great fashion to get the job done right.
Becoming a Fashion Stylist
While there are a few courses you could take to be a fashion stylist, for the most part one does not need a qualification to become a fashion stylist. Understanding of fabrics, the history of fashion and theory does allow one to justify their recommendations but that also comes with time and experience. Fashion stylist apprenticeships do exist that can help one on their career path but there is no set path to follow either; a fashion stylist can work in video games, film, television, the catwalk and pretty much any industry that requires people look good or specific.
